Activities

PacificMUN

One of UNYA Australia's principal international activities, PacMUN offers high school students an exciting opportunity to explore AustraliaÕs pacific region, take part in an international model UN conference and experience East Timor firsthand.

Students first attend NZMUN in Wellington, a prestigious conference that brings together students from around the Pacific for model UN debates, workshops and lectures. Students then travel to East Timor for a week of meetings with local youth groups, visits to development projects and discussions with government and UN officials. The tour aims to deepen studentsÕ understanding of development by giving them a personal experience of one of the worldÕs newest states.

The students will be accompanied by three experienced facilitators and a professional tour guide. This year's facilitation team is made up of Stefanie Garber, Beth Philipson and Steven Szuster. Facilitators and the tour guide have Senior First Aid training and all possible security measures have been taken. The trip will cost approximately $4,000 and UNYA will be seeking sponsorship to contribute to students' costs.

Students are selected from the pool of past delegates to UNYA state conferences and national events, so that the overall standard of applicant is extremely high.
