In the lead up to July, the Organising Committee will be working hard to make sure that UNYC 2009 is the best conference possible. The events below represent a taste of what to expect at UNYC. A draft itinerary is also available, although this itinerary is subject to change.
The speakers' panels are an important part of the activities of the week. On Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, the conference will hear from expert guest speakers on a variety of topics. Each panel is designed to provide an insight into a range of topics related to the conference theme, facing the future: multilateralism and global co-operation. Delegates are encouraged to share your personal ideas and opinions relating to the topic being discussed, and question the speakers present.
Caucusing bloc dinners are one of many activities taking place away from St Leo’s College. Bloc dinners will be held in restaurants around Brisbane City and its inner suburbs, with cuisine matched to your bloc’s region.
The Youth Declaration is one of the most important parts of UNYC. During the conference, delegates will draft a series of statements about what they believe, which are subsequently voted upon and form the UNYC 2009 Youth Declaration. This declaration will be presented to representatives of the Australian and Queensland governments at the end of the conference, during a river-front reception at Queensland Parliament House.
Thanks to the support of various community groups and non-government organisations, delegates will be treated to a relaxing cultural festival on the Thursday of the conference. Delegates will have the chance to unwind after an intense few days of debate while taking the opportunity to talk to community groups and NGO’s so find out how they can continue on their UNYA experiences when they return to their home towns.
