Youth Rep 2010

Financial Requirements

Previous Youth Representatives have received funding to cover their accommodation expenses in New York from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade It must be understood, however, that this support is annually confirmed, and thus will not be known until after the selection procedure has been commenced.

UNYA, as a Non-Governmental Organisation, is unfortunately unable to assist the Youth Representative in a financial capacity. UNYA will provide assistance to the Youth Representative in raising funds for the position through helping with media coverage and offering administrative support. It must be noted that although assistance is offered by UNYA, the prerogative will be firmly placed upon the Youth Representative to be able to meet the financial demands of the position.

Since the Youth Representative position was initiated in 1999, no Youth Representative has been unable to make the journey to the United Nations due to a lack of funding. While fundraising is hard work, each of the last five Youth Representatives were able to raise between AU$5,000 and AU$40,000.
